About

About Us — Jelita Foundation: Conservation of Nature and Wildlife in Sumatra

Jelita Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to nature conservation and wildlife preservation, with a focus on Riau Province and the broader Sumatra region. We work to safeguard forest ecosystems, protect endemic species — particularly the Sumatran Elephant — and foster peaceful, sustainable solutions to human-wildlife conflict.

Vision

To become a trusted partner in preserving the ecological balance of Sumatra’s forests and wildlife, ensuring a healthy environment and the well-being of communities for generations to come.

Mission

  • To protect populations of critically endangered wildlife, especially the Sumatran Elephant and its habitat
  • To restore and maintain forest corridors fragmented by land conversion and development
  • To resolve human-wildlife conflict through community-centered approaches
  • To raise public awareness and educate communities on the importance of nature conservation
  • To build strong partnerships with government agencies, institutions, and local communities

Our Story

Jelita Foundation was formally established in 2020, born from deep concern over rapid forest loss and the sharp decline in wildlife populations across Sumatra. What began as volunteer efforts in the field evolved into a formal foundation, enabling us to carry out conservation work in a more structured, sustainable, and far-reaching manner.
